Description

“Taurus” is a frontal bull portrait inside a circle, put together from warm earthy tones. The gaze is calm and stubborn, exactly as the sign suggests.

What the picture shows

The bull faces the viewer directly: wide horns rise in two arcs, the ears spread sideways, and green eyes ringed with yellow look straight ahead. The head is assembled from planes of brown, copper, ochre and pinkish beige beads, bands of fine dark ornament run inside the horns, and a white pearl line runs down the nose. A small medallion with the Taurus glyph sits on the ring above the head. The background is printed on the canvas — a pale stone surface with a web of cracks, like dry earth or old plaster. Only the figure and the circle are beaded, so the warm relief rises above the matte ground.
