Main Bead Embroidery Kit Evening cafe
Description
“Evening cafe” is a beaded take on Van Gogh’s famous night scene: a café terrace flooded with light under a yellow awning, and a starry sky above a narrow street. The piece is vertical and densely coloured.
What the picture shows
The left half of the canvas belongs to the terrace: the yellow awning, the warm glow of a lamp, tables and chairs, a few figures seated at them. On the right the street runs into the distance past dark façades with red shutters and a lit shop window, while a deep blue sky with large yellow stars opens up above. The cobblestones are worked in small multicoloured strokes — green, ochre, blue — and they fill the entire lower third of the picture. Beads cover the awning, the stars, the lamps and the pavement, while the painted walls and tree crown stay as print, which is why the light on the terrace looks so bright. Sixteen colours hold the contrast between the cold night sky and the warm yellow lamplight.
