Main Bead Embroidery Kit City sketches – 1

“City sketches – 1” is a sunlit city street with a tall golden spire in the distance. The eye is led along the pavement past a tree, a lamp post, an iron railing and a classical colonnaded facade.

What the picture shows

On the left a tree stands at full height, its dense green-gold canopy worked in small patches of beads; a cast-iron railing runs dark beneath it. In the centre a black street lamp with a glass shade divides the composition in two. On the right a yellow building with white columns and a long row of windows stretches along the street, and above it rises a tower with a gilded spire — the gold beads are at their densest and brightest here. The street runs into perspective and dissolves in a warm pale haze. The pavement is beaded in light tones with blue shadows. The sky is left as print on the canvas, so the beaded canopy, spire and facade stand out against it in relief. The colour scheme sets the cool green of the tree side against the warm ochre of the building side, with a bright strip of sunlit pavement running between them.
