Main Bead Embroidery Kit Holy Guardian Angel

“Holy Guardian Angel” is a half-length icon of an angel in a red himation, holding a staff in the right hand and a green branch in the left. The image is calm and light, with a large golden halo filling the background.

What the picture shows

The angel is shown almost frontally, the head slightly inclined; a green band crosses the dark hair, and white wings rise behind the shoulders, worked in silver and pale blue beads with a translucent shimmer. The robe is a deep red with darker folds, and the staff is topped with a cross. The halo is filled with dense rows of gold and bronze beads, so in the finished piece it reads as one continuous glow. A wide border of diamond ornament frames the image — red, green and gold lozenges running all the way round. Along the bottom is a name panel with a Church Slavonic inscription on a light ground. The fine foliate pattern behind the halo stays as print on the canvas, while the beadwork covers the figure, the wings, the halo and the ornament.
