Main Bead Embroidery Kit January bitter cold
Description
“January bitter cold” shows three chickadees on snow-laden spruce branches, with a wooden cabin standing in the distance, light in its windows and smoke rising from the chimney. It is a companion piece to “February frost” and rests on the same winter silence.
What the picture shows
The birds are worked in fine beads: black cap and chin, white cheeks, warm yellow breasts. They sit at different heights — one high on the right, two lower on the left and in the centre — so the eye travels diagonally through the picture. The spruce boughs are heavy with snow, and clusters of red berries show between the needles. Deep in the frame are a frozen pond, a fence and the log walls of the cabin with yellow windows; a thin band of smoke rises above the roof. The sky is a dense blue, and large snowflakes are stitched onto it as separate white beads. The far plane and the sky itself stay as print on the canvas, so the beaded branches and birds come forward.
