Main Bead Embroidery Kit St. Matrona of Moscow
Description
The icon of “St. Matrona of Moscow” is a waist-length image of the saint on a gold ground, in green robes and a pale headscarf. Her eyes are closed, her right hand is raised in blessing and a prayer rope rests in her left. The composition is strict and symmetrical, built on green against gold.
What the picture shows
The figure fills almost the whole height of the image. The headscarf is worked in pale grey and white beads with a red edging, the robe in a saturated emerald with darker folds, and the halo and background are laid in gold and ochre beads that give an even, warm glow. A wide ornamental border runs around the edge: blue, gold and terracotta diamonds with squares at the corners, and a light panel at the top carries the saint's name in a beaded Church Slavonic inscription. The face and hands stay as print on the artist canvas, so the features remain soft and painterly while the beadwork surrounds them as a dense continuous field.
