Main Bead Embroidery Kit Water-mill

“Water-mill” shows an old timber mill above a forest stream at the height of golden autumn. The water turns the big wheel and runs down in a series of small falls, and everything around holds the particular silence of an October wood.

What the picture shows

The mill with its rust-coloured shingle roof stands on the right, reached by a rickety footbridge over the stream. On both sides are birch trunks with black markings, dark spruces and maples in every shade of russet, from lemon yellow to brick and crimson. A band of mist hides the far forest deep in the frame, and two deer stand among the dry grass on the opposite slope. The foreground is thickly strewn with fallen leaves and fern. Beads cover almost the whole scene — canopies, grasses, the mill's log walls, the stones — while the mist, the distant hills and part of the falling water stay as print on the canvas, which keeps the water light and moving.
