Main Bead Embroidery Kit Dolly

“Dolly” is the third retro portrait in the series: a red-haired beauty in a draped red dress, with a flower in her hair and a pearl necklace.

What the picture shows

Her hair is waved and copper red, with a dark flower and green leaves pinned to one side, and long earrings with a large bead hang at her ears. The dress is deep red, gathered in folds at the waist, with a thin vertical line of trim; a black-and-white bracelet sits at her wrist and a ring on her finger. The background is again aged ochre-brown, with a map, a compass rose and a gold arch around the figure. There are thirteen colours, and nearly all of them work for the red fabric and the gold. Beads cover the dress, the jewellery, the flower and the frame ornament, while the face, the shoulders and the map stay as print on the artist canvas — so the red fabric gains relief and shine and the skin stays soft. The folds of the dress run down from the waist in long rays, and every plane of the fabric takes a different shade of red.
