Description

“Mountain waterfall” shows a wooded gorge where a narrow stream drops from a rock face into a quiet pool among pines. A summer day, full of greenery and cool shade.

What the picture shows

The waterfall runs as a vertical band slightly left of centre: the water comes down the dark rock in several steps, breaks into spray and flows into a clear pool with stones on the bottom. Tall pines with reddish trunks and dense dark spruces stand on both sides, while the right bank rises in a gentle slope covered with dry grass and scrub. Small pink flowers bloom at the very right edge. The palette is built on green, from almost black in the shade to bright light green in the sun. Beads cover the falling water and foam, the stones, the crowns and undergrowth, the grass on the slope, the flowers and the highlights on the pool; the sky, the far rocks and the trunks stay as print, so the water reads as the brightest part of the piece.
