Main Bead Embroidery Kit Arc de Triomphe

“Arc de Triomphe” is a Paris view of the arch on Place Charles de Gaulle, drawn in a light watercolour manner. A clear day, high sky and passers-by under the trees.

What the picture shows

The arch takes up almost the full height of the canvas and sits slightly to the right, leaving room on the left for an avenue of tall green chestnut trees. Through the opening you can see the pale perspective of the street beyond. The stone is given in warm ochre-yellow tones that shift to olive in the shade; the cornice with its row of small details reads clearly at the top, and a sculpted relief group stands out on the right pier. Below there are tiny figures of pedestrians, a street lamp and a glazed kiosk. The sky is pale blue with greyish lilac clouds. Beads cover the cornice and upper frieze, the reliefs, the tree crowns, the lamp and the little figures, while the large fields of wall and sky stay as watercolour print — that contrast is exactly what gives the sense of light.
