Description

“Morning haze” is a quiet view across water at dawn: the sun has just cleared the far bank and mist still lies over the surface. An old wooden boat waits at the shore.

What the picture shows

On the left, in the foreground, birches with white trunks carry sparse yellow-green leaves, with grass and pink spikes of meadow flowers beneath them. On the right, autumn has already caught a crown that glows orange and gold. Between them the river opens, mirroring the trees, the sky and the orange disc of the sun; lily pads and small white flowers cover the surface. The far bank barely shows through the fog as a blue-grey band. The palette is soft and morning-like: pearly pink, pale blue, warm green and ochre. Beadwork covers the foliage, the grass, the boat, the flowers and the lily pads, while the sky, the mist and the water surface stay as print on the canvas, which keeps the reflections blurred and calm.
