Main Bead Embroidery Kit Lady Ellian

“Lady Ellian” shows three large pink lilies against a mottled background of broad colour strokes. The flowers are seen close up, almost at arm’s length, so the piece reads as a painterly study.

What the picture shows

The central lily is fully open: pointed petals with crimson speckles, long stamens with dark anthers, a curved pistil. Two more blooms sit to the left and right, cropped by the edge of the canvas, and a bunch of narrow green leaves rises from below. The background carries no scene of its own: bands of turquoise, pink, ochre and violet laid on with a wide brush, crossed at an angle by fine golden lines like taut thread. Beadwork covers the petals, the leaves and the golden lines, while the coloured background stays as print on the canvas — which brings the flowers forward and gives them a faint sheen. The petals are worked in smooth rows that follow the shape of each bloom, and the fine shift from white to deep pink makes the lily look lit from within.
