Description

“Lady Macbeth” is a restrained decorative portrait: a woman’s profile set inside a large black circle framed by golden ornament. It reads more as a sign than as a story, and that is exactly why it works as a graphic accent.

What the picture shows

The composition is simple and symmetrical. At the centre is a black circle of solid beadwork, out of which the profile emerges as a pale silhouette: high forehead, lowered lashes, clearly drawn lips, a long line of neck. A broad golden band with a meander pattern wraps the circle, and the same ornamented strip runs downwards like a heavy collar or necklace. The background is deep brick red with a fine texture. The palette is deliberately narrow: black, gold, red and warm skin tone. That is why the kit uses only 7 bead colours yet a great many beads — filling the black circle and the ornament completely gives a dense, almost mosaic surface, while the face stays as print on the canvas.
