“The London lifestyle – 3” shows a red double-decker bus against the city's familiar towers, and a couple walking hand in hand.

What the picture shows

The bus stands at the left and centre, beaded in saturated red and cherry: the windows of both decks are visible, along with black wheels and a yellow headlamp. On the right two figures — a man and a woman in long coats — are given as golden ochre silhouettes seen from behind; they hold hands and look towards the bridge. In front of them runs the wrought-iron embankment railing with large spiral scrolls worked in blue and steel beads. The background is treated as a pencil sketch on pale paper: the clock tower, the high spires of an abbey, and the outline of a bascule bridge with its two towers and cables. Most of that architecture stays as print on the artist canvas, so the beadwork acts in accents — the bus, the silhouettes, the railing and a few highlights. That is what makes the red of the bus read so strongly.
