Main Bead Embroidery Kit The London lifestyle – 2
Description
“The London lifestyle – 2” shows a guardsman in scarlet inside his black sentry box, with Big Ben and the figure of a passer-by behind him.
What the picture shows
The right half of the frame is taken by a wooden sentry box with a pitched roof, beaded in dark brown and black with gilded edging. The guard stands inside it: a scarlet tunic with a white belt and gold plate, black trousers, a tall bearskin cap, one hand raised in salute. On the left a man walks along the paving — his figure is given as a solid dark silhouette, densely stitched, with a faint sheen on the shoulders and hat, his shadow stretching behind him across the pale pavement. Between them the clock tower rises in the distance, drawn in soft ochre and grey. The background is treated as a light sketch in beige and cream: trees, a railing, an empty street. That is what stays as print on the artist canvas, while beadwork goes onto the box, the tunic, the cap and the passer-by's silhouette — the piece is built on the contrast between dense stitching and an almost empty ground.
