Main Bead Embroidery Kit Vivian

“Vivian” shows a woman from behind under an enormous feathered headdress that flares out in every direction like a burst of light — a carnival image in hot reds and gold.

What the picture shows

The figure is turned away, her head in profile over one shoulder, and her bare back and the line of her shoulders stay the calmest part of the composition. The headdress is built from long pointed feathers worked in rows of red, cherry and gold beads: they scatter upwards, sideways and down, and they take up most of the canvas. At its centre sits a dense round disc, close to a shell, patterned in darker tones. The dress is held across her back by fine gold chains and continues below into a corset embroidered in small beads. The background is split diagonally: saturated coral pink at the top and left, a warm yellow glow with white flashes at the lower right. The background and the bare back stay as print on the artist canvas, while beadwork takes on the feathers, the headdress, the dress and the gold threads of the jewellery.
