Main Bead Embroidery Kit The old story

“The old story” is a scene in the spirit of classical painting: a young man in a striped tunic stands before a woman in gold, mid-conversation whose beginning the viewer never saw.

What the picture shows

The format is strongly elongated upwards, so both figures are shown almost full length. On the left a youth in a lilac shirt with a wide gold belt and woven sandals raises a hand to his face; on the right a young woman in a long honey-gold robe sits on a marble bench, a band in her hair, reaching a hand towards him. A spotted hide is thrown over the edge of the bench between them. A grapevine with dark bunches hangs at the upper left, a heavy red curtain and pale marble wall fill the right, and the floor below is worked in warm terracotta half-tones. Wide geometric bands of beaded braiding close the composition at top and bottom. The marble, the floor and the faces stay as print on the artist canvas, while beadwork covers the clothing, the grapes, the curtain, the hide and both ornamental bands.
