Main Bead Embroidery Kit Ladies stuff

“Ladies stuff” is a square still life about small feminine things: hat boxes, lace, beads, ribbons and a posy of roses, arranged in a warm pink and raspberry range. The scene looks like a corner of a dressing room where someone has just been sorting through their belongings.

What the picture shows

At the centre is a stack of round and rectangular boxes tied with golden ribbon and a bow, with a small cushion on top carrying a printed bunch of pink roses. Above the boxes are white openwork lace and silvery ornaments, next to open orange and marigold roses. On the left stands a box with a red bow, with lilac beads and tassels spilling down. On the right are a round box and a coil of pale lace. The background is a heavy raspberry curtain fading into smoky pink. Beads cover the lace, the strands, the ribbons, the bows, the roses and the edges of the boxes, while the curtain, the printed cushion and the soft shadows stay as print on the artist canvas.
