“Agnes” is a fairy-tale miniature about a fairy with a little frog in her hand. The subject is naive and warm, held in a yellow and lilac range, with a border of leaves and small flowers winding round the edge of the canvas.

What the picture shows

The fairy stands in profile in a tall pointed hat with a pale veil falling behind her. Her costume is a violet bodice and sleeves over a full golden-sand skirt with a long train, with small ornaments at the neck and waist. A green frog sits on her raised palm. A small tree with a round crown and yellow fruit grows at the left, a pale path running beneath it. The ground is an even lemon yellow with a barely visible texture. Beads cover the fairy with her hat and veil, the fruiting tree, the frog and the whole ornamental border of leaves and flowers, while the yellow field stays as print on the artist canvas.
