Main Bead Embroidery Kit May day

“May day” is a square floral composition with red poppies and two butterflies on a soft watercolour ground. The drawing is decorative and light, as if it had been made in one breath on damp paper.

What the picture shows

At the centre is an open poppy with saturated red-orange petals and a green heart, with a large butterfly settled on it, its wings lilac and yellow-green. A second butterfly, dark grey, flies at the upper left. Below is another large poppy shown almost close up, with buds on curving stems and sharp green leaves beside it. The background is washed in flowing patches of peach, pink, light green and white. Beads cover both poppies, the buds, the leaves, the stems and the butterfly wings, while the watercolour washes stay as print on the artist canvas, so the flowers and insects look dense and rounded against a transparent ground.
