Description

“Peacock” is a decorative piece with a peacock against blossoming cherry and a sun rising over water. The bird fills almost the whole canvas and the ground is laid out in broad bands of colour, so the composition reads almost like stained glass.

What the picture shows

The tail falls in a full cascade: emerald and grass-green feathers, each carrying a deep blue eye ringed with turquoise. The neck curves, the breast shifts through blue and violet, and a small crest sits on the head. Branches of cherry blossom with pink and white flowers on dark stems fill the left and top, while an orange sun with radiating beams and a band of glinting water take the right. Beads cover the bird, the eyes on the feathers, the blossoms and the sun with its rays, while the pink and peach fields of the background and the water stay as print on the artist canvas — which is why the tail reads as the densest, most glittering part of the picture.
