Description

“Devotion” is a portrait of two wolves among rocks and green shrubs, painted in a warm golden-ochre range. The title reads plainly: the animals stay close together, and it is the pair, not the landscape, that is the real subject here.

What the picture shows

One wolf stands slightly higher and looks straight at the viewer; the other has settled on a rock below with its forepaws stretched out. The fur is built from russet, cream, grey and almost white transitions, the muzzles pale, the ears darker at the edges. Dark green juniper bushes surround them, and the whole right and upper part of the canvas is a wall of golden sandstone with long cracks. Small yellow flowers on thin stems are scattered along the lower edge. The beadwork covers both wolves, the green bushes and the yellow flowers, while the rock wall and the stone texture stay as print on the artist canvas, so the fur looks thick and rounded and the background steps back.
