Main Bead Embroidery Kit The last supper
Description
“The last supper” is the classic Gospel scene: Christ and the apostles at a long table covered with a white cloth. The composition is symmetrical and solemn, with a tall bright arch directly behind the Saviour.
What the picture shows
At the centre is the figure of Christ in red and blue; the opening of the arch glows above him, and the brightest light in the whole picture comes from there. The apostles sit and stand on either side, turned towards one another and towards the table; their robes are worked in saturated colours — blue, emerald, crimson, golden yellow and lilac — and this wave of colour carries the rhythm of the piece. The haloes are stitched in golden beads in fine even circles. Beyond the arches to each side stand warm ochre buildings, and above runs a vault with blue coffers. The cloth, the vessels and the bread on the table stay mostly as print on the artist canvas, so the beadwork picks out above all the figures, their garments and the haloes.
