Description

“Pearl” is a warm still life with a bouquet of cream-pink roses in a silvery vase curled like a snail shell. A cut rose and an iridescent seashell lie on the table beside it — the shell that gives the piece its name.

What the picture shows

The roses are worked in pale pink, cream and peach beads: the petals are laid in circles running outward from the heart, so the blooms come out full and rounded rather than flat. Between them are dark green leaves with clear serrations and a few small buds on thin stems. The horn-shaped vase is stitched in silver-grey beads with a cool sheen, and its curl at the base becomes an ornament in its own right. The table is covered with a blue-turquoise cloth scattered with single beads like loose pearls, and a pink shell rests to the right. The background is warm ochre-gold and stays as print on the artist canvas, so the beaded flowers, vase and shell glow against the matte base.
