Description

“Cup” is a small still life for morning coffee: a striped cup on a matching saucer with a cake in a dark fluted case beside it. The background is warm orange, and the scene is framed by a wide striped border of multicoloured beads.

What the picture shows

The cup is worked in horizontal bands — white, orange, dark brown and reddish — with a white handle and a thin light rim; the saucer beneath repeats the same striped pattern. The cake sits in the foreground: a cream top with a red berry above and, below, a dark ribbed paper case stitched in black and orange beads so that the folds of the paper read clearly. The background behind is warm ochre-orange with no extra detail, so all the attention stays on the china and the pastry. The border is built from rows of coloured bands — red, blue, green, yellow and lilac. The piece is small but densely beaded, so the surface comes out textured across the whole area.
