Main Bead Embroidery Kit Orange

“Orange” is a juicy little still life: a whole orange and a half beside it, cut so that every segment and the pale core are visible. Green leaves lie around the fruit, and the scene itself is set inside a wide striped border of multicoloured beads.

What the picture shows

The fruit is worked in orange, carrot and yellow beads; in the cut half the segments are marked with lighter rows radiating from the centre, so the piece really reads as a slice rather than a flat patch. The whole fruit is darker at the edge and lighter near the top, which gives it roundness. The leaves are stitched in two greens with clear veins, and a small dark star of a calyx sits by the stem. The background is a deep cherry burgundy, and the citrus glows against it. The border is built from rows of red, blue, green, yellow and lilac beads. Beadwork covers both the central scene and the frame, so the whole surface comes out textured.
