Main Bead Embroidery Kit Hydrangea

“Hydrangea” is a small, bright picture of summer in a pot: a round head of blue hydrangea with tiny yellow centres sits in a terracotta pot tied with a pale blue bow. The scene is set inside a wide striped border of multicoloured beads, which gives the piece the cheerful look of a cut-paper collage.

What the picture shows

The flower head is worked in light blue, turquoise and deep blue beads with yellow specks of pollen, so the bloom looks soft and woven out of tiny stars. The leaves are rich green in several shades, with darker edges. The pot is brown-terracotta with a clear light rim, and the bow is pale blue with long ends falling down the side. The background behind the flower is warm and honey-orange, which makes the cool blue read all the brighter. The border is built from rows of red, blue, green, yellow and purple beads laid around the perimeter. Beads cover almost the whole surface here — both the scene and the frame — so the finished piece is dense and noticeably textured.
