Main Bead Embroidery Kit Dreams

“Dreams” shows a fair-haired little angel with blue wings leaning on a stone parapet, chin on her hands, lost in thought. A grey kitten sits beside her and blue butterflies drift above.

What the picture shows

The background is a deep blue-turquoise forest with soft light between the trunks; it stays as print on the artist canvas, as do the child’s face and hair and the kitten. Beadwork covers the wings, the green leaves hanging from above, the red and orange flowers below, the butterflies and the band of stonework under her elbows — that parapet is stitched solid and anchors the bottom of the composition. The wings are worked in white and pale blue beads with a pearly sheen, so they glow against the darker ground. Of the fifteen colours most go to greenery and flowers, leaving the figure itself soft and painterly. The kitten on the right balances the figure of the girl, and the flowers below close the composition off. The leaves above hang in an uneven lace and form a natural frame around the child’s face.
