Main Bead Embroidery Kit The kiss
Description
“The kiss” is stitched after the well-known painting by Gustav Klimt: a man bends to kiss a woman’s cheek while both are wrapped in one golden robe. It is the largest project of the series by volume — 18,172 beads.
What the picture shows
The entire surface is gold and ornament. The man’s robe is dominated by rectangles of black, white and ochre; the woman’s dress by circles, spirals and floral rosettes in red, blue and violet. Her hair is warm auburn with small flowers woven into it; the faces and hands stay as print on the artist canvas, because those are the parts that need painted softness. Beadwork covers the ornament, the gold ground around the figures and the flowering meadow below, where the green is scattered with tiny blue, white and red blossoms. The dense stitching makes the piece shimmer in raking light and shift as you move past it.
