Main Bead Embroidery Kit St. Nicolas Cathedral
Description
“St. Nicolas Cathedral” is a city view with a blue-and-white cathedral at the end of the street: five golden domes rise above the trees, with old balconied houses standing on either side.
What the picture shows
The subject runs on the contrast of blue and blazing autumn. The cathedral walls are worked in pale blue and white beads, the domes in gold and ochre, and the lanterns of the drums are outlined with a thin white line. The tree crowns along the street burn red, orange and yellow, while the foreground holds shrubs with red blossom and green leaves. The sky, the cobbles and the distant façades stay as print on the artist canvas, so the stitched architecture and foliage come forward. Eighteen colours give smooth transitions inside the autumn crowns, from orange-yellow through to deep red. The cathedral stands deep in the view while the houses on either side narrow the street, so a small piece still carries real perspective. The crowns take the longest, built from small beads of many different colours. The balconies and cornices of the houses on the right are picked out in a few rows of beads, so the façade does not merge into the background.
