Description

“Summer imagination” is a bouquet of red poppies with cornflowers and small yellow blooms in a pale vase. A bright and straightforward still life.

What the picture shows

The bouquet is loose and spreading: large red poppies with dark centres, blue cornflowers, small yellow and white blooms, long green stems with narrow leaves. The vase is pale, almost translucent, and stands on a table draped in white fabric with soft folds. A few poppies and a green sprig lie on the tabletop beside it. The background is warm and blurred, moving from peach to pale green, with no extra detail. Beads cover all the flowers, the stems, the leaves and the draped cloth, while the background stays as painted print — which makes the bouquet look dense and clearly forward of the surface. Red leads here, and the blue and yellow only reinforce it rather than competing for attention. The composition is simple, with no second plane.
