Main Bead Embroidery Kit Etude

“Etude” is an evening still life: a bouquet of lilac, a lit candle, a stack of old books and a porcelain figurine on a dark table. An intimate piece with the feel of a quiet evening.

What the picture shows

A full bouquet of lilac stands in a yellow jug, running from deep purple to cream, with broad green leaves. A candle burns in a low holder beside it; on the left of the table there is a figurine of a lady in a lace dress and scattered pearl beads. To the right lean a folded honey-coloured fan and a few worn books in dark bindings. The background is a green draped curtain and the table is covered with a dark red cloth. Beads cover the flowers, the leaves, the jug, the fan, the pearls and the candle flame; the fabric, the books and the background stay as print, so the light in the picture reads immediately. The darkest part of the canvas is the lower right, the lightest is by the candle, and that is where the eye goes. The bouquet takes up the upper two thirds of the image.
