“Forget-me-nots” is a square still life: a bouquet of forget-me-nots and daisies on a table covered with white lace. A quiet morning scene with tea.

What the picture shows

A generous bouquet of blue forget-me-nots, white daisies and fine green leaves stands in a glass vase. On the left there is a white porcelain teapot with gold trim, on the right a cup of strong tea on its saucer and a small orange creamer. The table is dressed with a white lace cloth over patterned blue fabric, with a silver spoon and strands of white and blue beads beside it. Beads cover all the flowers, the lace, the china and the necklaces, while the background and the folds of fabric stay as print — which is exactly why the lace looks so raised and almost touchable. Blue and white carry the whole composition, and the cup of tea adds the single warm note.
