What the picture shows

She is drawn in profile: bare shoulders, a long white dress with a yellow checked sash, a wreath of daisies in her dark hair. One hand holds a translucent parasol, a basket of blue and white flowers rests in the crook of her arm. Pink hollyhocks bloom along the path on the left, purple lupins rise on the right. Behind her the view opens out: wide water with sailing boats, pale buildings on the far bank and a sunlit slope. Beads cover the dress, the wreath, the parasol, the basket and every flower in the foreground, while the water, the sky and the far shore stay as painted print. Most of the shades go to the flowers — pink hollyhocks, blue lupins and the white posy in the basket.
