Description

“Fairy-tale” is a round scene in a golden lace surround: four angel children hold hands and dance in a ring on a green glade flooded with sunbeams.

What the picture shows

The medallion with the scene is set into a square of warm ochre, and a wide openwork lace border with small flowers and stones runs around the circle. Inside are pale dresses, white wings, a wreath of flowers in the hair of the girl at the centre, white doves rising on both sides and a white lamb below; a garland of flowers lies under the children's feet. Beads cover the openwork surround with its scatter of coloured accents, the flower garland beneath the ring dance, the wreaths and necklace, the edging of the wings and dresses, and the band of ornament around the perimeter of the canvas. The children's figures, the sunbeams and the green of the wood stay as print, so the beadwork acts as a setting for a soft painted scene.
