Main Bead Embroidery Kit Fruit

“Fruit” is a square still life with a woven basket full of ripe produce: a peach, a pear, dark blue plums, red apples and clusters of grapes among green leaves.

What the picture shows

The basket stands in the centre of a warm ochre ground bordered with a turquoise band — that cool edge is exactly what makes the fruit read brighter. Beads cover almost everything that matters here: the sides of the peach and the pear with their yellow-to-orange transitions, the blue plums with their matte bloom, the red apples, the small berries, the green leaves, and the basket itself, whose weave is set with coloured beads standing in for the gaps between the withies. The handle is beaded in pale beads too. The background and the soft shadows under the fruit stay as print on the canvas, which keeps the still life rounded rather than flat. Fifteen bead colours give smooth transitions inside each piece of fruit.
